He worked as a manger of the basketball team for Tagajō Senior High School before he started to act.

He was married to actress, Mika Kanai from 1994-2006 and then married actress, Rie Tanaka in 2012.
He has done Japanese voice overs for a lot of Jim Carrey's characters in his films.
