American jazz trumpet player and cornetist remembered for his work with the Camelia Brass Band and for his playing on songs like Shake It and Break It.
He began his career as a clarinetist and performed with various brass bands in New Orleans.
His playing was not recorded until 1945, when he was already 62 years old.
His nephew is clarinetist Albert Nicholas.
He cited Buddy Bolden, who he knew personally, as a primary influence on his cornet playing.
