William E Moerner
Chemist
American chemist who received the 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work in fluorescence microscopy. He has served as a chemistry professor at Stanford University and is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
He was born on the Parks Air Force Base and earned his PhD in Physics from Cornell University in 1982.
In addition to the Nobel Prize, he has received other distinguished honors like the Wolf Prize in Chemistry and the Earle K. Plyler Prize for Molecular Spectroscopy.
He has a son named Daniel with his wife Sharon. His father and grandfather are also named William.
He shared the 2014 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with his colleague Stefan Hell.
