Stefan Hell
Physicist
German physicist who received the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics for the advancement of super-resolved fluorescence microscopy. He founded the Nanobiophotonics department at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry and has served as a professor at the Heidelberg University Faculty of Physics and Astronomy.
He grew up in Santana, Romania before leaving for West Germany with his parents in 1978.
He is also an inventor who created what came to be known as the 4Pi microscope.
He married a woman named Anna, with whom he has children named Jonathan, Sebastian and Charlotte.
Like American neurobiologist Roderick MacKinnon, he is the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics.
