Walter L. Sharp
War Hero
U.S. Army four-star general who served as Director of the Joint Staff during the first decade of the 21st century.
He belonged to a military family. He was born, in fact, while his father was serving in the Korean War.
He participated in Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti and was also involved in the bombing campaign over Bosnia in the 1990s.
He married Joanne R. Caporaso of New York; the couple had three children.
He and John G. Coburn both attained the coveted rank of four-star general.
