Vachel Lindsay
Poet
American poet whose works include "Abraham Lincoln Walks at Midnight" and "The Eagle That is Forgotten." He is regarded as the father of "singing poetry" -- poetry written to be chanted.
After briefly studying medicine at Hiram College, he attended the Art Institute of Chicago.
Both a poet and a musical performance artist, he earned the nickname of "Prairie Troubadour."
He married and had two children with Elizabeth Connor, who was twenty years his junior.
He was a contemporary of William Butler Yeats.
