TS Eliot
Poet
Nobel Prize-winning modernist poet best known for The Wasteland and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. His later works include The Hollow Men and Murder in the Cathedral.
He was the last child born to Henry Ware Eliot and Charlotte Champe Stearns, both of whom were in their mid-forties at the time of his birth.
He graduated from Harvard College with a degree in philosophy.
His unhappy marriage to Vivienne Haigh-Wood began in 1915. Following Haigh-Wood's institutionalization and subsequent death, Eliot married Esme Valerie Fletcher.
In his youth, Eliot was a voracious reader of the works of Mark Twain.
