She fought for political rights and higher educational standards for women.
Her newspaper editorials and poems, written under the pseudonym of "Speranza," called for a violent Irish revolution.
She wed Sir William Wilde in 1851; the couple had one daughter and two sons.
She was the mother of renowned author Oscar Wilde.
