Grammy Award-winning American acoustic guitarist who had a considerable impact on the bluegrass genre.
He began his music career in Los Angeles, California before moving to Kentucky, which was more fitting with his bluegrass style.
In 2013, he was an International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame inductee.
His father was a semi-professional bluegrass musician.
He often collaborated with long-time friend and fellow bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs.
