Olympic weightlifter for the U.S. team who won gold medals at the 1952 Summer Olympics and the 1956 Summer Olympics.
He spent three years of his youth at the Tule Lake Internment Camp.
He set over 20 world records during the period in which he won the World Weightlifting Championships 6 straight times.
He fathered three children with Florence Rodrigues, whom he married in 1962.
He won his first Olympic gold medal in the same year legendary Olympic broadcaster Bob Costas was born.
