Famed salsa singer and bandleader from Puerto Rico known as "El Gallo Salsero" (The Salsa Rooster). He had a prolific decades-long career as both a solo artist as well as a member of notable orchestras.
He was born and raised in Humacao, Puerto Rico, which is located on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. His first job was in 1975 as a singer in the Pedro Conga Orchestra.
His album Por Propio Derecho went double platinum in 1995 and it garnered him the Paoli Prize for "Best Salsa Artist of the Year" and an ACE Award.
He was married to a woman named Ivy whom he often featured on his eponymous Instagram.
He was also a member of the salsa music group Fania All-Stars and played alongside Little Louie Vega and Roberto Roena.
