Thomas Warton
Poet
Eighteenth-century English poet and literary critic who is best known for his poem "The Pleasures of Melancholy."
He was born in Hampshire, England, and he graduated from Trinity College, Oxford.
He served as English Poet Laureate from 1785-1790.
He was the son of Thomas Warton the Elder, who was also a poet.
He and his contemporary, Christopher Smart, both belonged to a group of literary figures known as the Graveyard Poets.
