Notable for her hit Canadian single "O Siem," her Juno Award-winning albums Arctic Rose (1992) and Big Feeling (2003), and her Triple Platinum album This Child (1995), she rose to fame for her unique blend of pop and country musical styles with Canadian Inuit traditional music.
She began singing while working for Canada's Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami organization. In the early 1990s, she was featured in a CBC special focusing on entertainers of the Arctic region.
She worked on behalf of several non-profit organizations formed to aid Inuit and aboriginal young people.
A member of an Inuk family, she spent her early days in Manitoba and the bulk of her childhood in Arviat, Northwest Territories. Her song "Kathy" deals with the suicide of her niece.
She and Joey Stylez are both well known Canadian aboriginal musicians.
