Skip Spence
Folk Singer
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist who co-founded a 1960s psychedelic folk/rock group called Moby Grape. He also performed as a drummer on Jefferson Airplane's first album.
He began his music career as a guitarist for a band called The Other Side.
He suffered from schizophrenia and drug addiction, but ultimately died in his early fifties from lung cancer.
He was born in Ontario, Canada, but he spent most of his childhood in San Jose, California. His father, Alexander Lett Spence, was a salesman, musician, and World War II veteran.
He and musician Jerry Miller were co-founders of Moby Grape.
