Sivan Perwer
World Music Singer
Kurdish singer and poet whose songs were banned in many Middle Eastern countries due to their themes of Kurdish oppression. He has recorded more than twenty albums during his long and acclaimed career, including 1978's Le Dilbere and 2009 Cane Cane.
He was born in Siverek, Turkey and was exiled from the country in 1976.
He established the Sivan Perwer International Cultural Foundation in an effort to preserve Kurdish culture in 2004.
His wife Gulistan is also a their Kurdish singer.
He performed at the "Simple Truth" Live Aid concert in 1991 alongside other socially-conscious performers like Paul Simon.
