He made his first class debut in 1989 for Hampshire, where he stayed until 2007.
He ended his career with Middlesex, where he was a captain from 2009 until his retirement in 2010.
He was born in Cove, Farnborough, Hampshire, England.
At Middlesex he was teammates with Adam Gilchrist,who took over captaincy when he retired.
