Satyendra Nath Bose
Physicist
A physicist known for his work in quantum mechanics and for providing the foundation for Bose-Einstein statistics, which describe the interactions of particles at thermodynamic equilibrium. The particle class known as bosons were named in his honor by Paul Dirac.
He scored in the MSc mixed mathematics exam set long-standing records at the University of Calcutta.
He was the General President of the Indian Science Congress and he became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1958.
He was one of 7 children born to his parents, and the only boy.
He and chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand were both honored with the title of Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award given by the Indian government.
