Sattar Bahlulzade
Painter
Impressionist painter whose best known works included "Gudialchay Valley," "Evening Above Caspian Sea," and "Spring of My Native Land." He was known as the father of contemporary Azerbaijani landscape painting.
He studied at the National Art Institute in Baku from 1927 to 1931. He began studying at the Moscow Fine Arts Institute in the Drawing Department in 1933.
His works were exhibited around the world, including the United States, England, Turkey, and Russia.
He was raised in the small region of Emircan, Baku. He was buried next to his mother's grave in Amirjan, his native village.
He and Azim Azimzade were both named a People's Artist of Azerbaijan.
