He could read 17 different languages.
While he was living amongst the Tibetan people, he was given the local name Phyi-glin-gi-grwa-pa, meaning the foreign student.
He was born into a lower class family, though he still managed to get a good education.
He made the first Tibet-English dictionary in history; Dimitrija Cupovski had a similar accomplishment with the first Russian-Macedonian dictionary.
