Thomas Crean
Explorer
A polar explorer who made four different trips to Antarctica.
He joined the Royal Navy at age 15, and jumped at a chance to join an arctic expedition shortly after.
On one expedition, an accident forced him and his team members to trek 800 miles across the frozen wilderness in search of help.
Reportedly, an argument with his father motivated him to run away and join the Royal Navy.
Roald Amundsen is another well-known polar explorer.
