Samuel Cohen
Physicist
Famous for developing a nuclear weapon known as the W70, this New York-born physicist is considered an early architect of the combined fission and fusion neutron bomb.
After earning degrees in physics and mathematics at the University of California-Los Angeles, he joined the their Manhattan project, studying neutron behavior in the atomic bomb that would devastate Nagasaki, Japan and help bring about the end of World War II.
He worked for the RAND Corporation during the 1950s.
He grew up in New York City as the son of Austrian-Jewish immigrants.
He and fellow physicist Roy Glauber were both involved in the Manhattan Project.
