British explorer who helped to find the source of the Nile River.
He lived on the island of Mauritius for two years and in Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka) for nearly 10 years.
He received knighthood after returning to England, and became a Pasha, which is Egypt's highest honor.
He met his second wife, Florence von Sass, while traveling through Africa.
He was a friend of fellow explorer Henry Morton Stanley .
