Second ruler of the Maratha Kingdom. During times of drought, he was known to exempt taxes to help out members of his kingdom.
He began his reign on January 16, 1681.
He ruled for nearly 10 years after escaping captivity at Panhala Fort.
He was the son of Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Kingdom. His mother died when he was two years old, so he was raised by his paternal grandmother.
He and Subhas Chandra Bose were both prominent Indian politicians.
