NHL center and coach who was the winner of the Budweiser NHL Man of the Year Award in 1992. He later became a hockey broadcaster.
He was drafted second overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft.
He was named team captain of the Capitals in his second season, making him the youngest team captain in NHL history at that point.
His three sons all became professional hockey players.
He served as vice president of the NHL Players Association, of which Trevor Linden was president.
