Rohinton Mistry
Playwright
An Indian-born Canadian writer, he is known for Such a Long Journey; Family Matters; and A Fine Balance. He was the 2012 recipient of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature.
He studied economics and mathematics at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. After moving to Canada in 1975, he earned degrees in philosophy and English from the University of Toronto.
He was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for his 1991 novel, Such a Long Journey.
He and his wife emigrated to Canada together. His brother, Cyrus Mistry, had a career as a playwright.
He and Girish Karnard are both Indian writers.
