Al Mahmud
Poet
Renowned twentieth-century Bengali poet who won a Bangla Academy Award in 1968. His best-known works include Kaler Kalosh, Sonali Kabin, and Mayabi Porda Dule Otho.
He published his first major work, Lok Lokantor, in 1963.
During the early 1970s, he was a freedom fighter in the Bangladeshi Liberation War.
He married Sayeda Nadira Begum and had a son named Mir Muhammad Monir.
He won the Bangla Academy Award three years after author Alauddin Al-Azad received the same honor.
