Became known as a wing and centre for many teams, including the Wellington Lions, the Crusaders, and Canterbury in ITM Cup.
He represented New Zealand in the Under-19 Rugby World Championship in 2007.
He underwent open-heart surgery for rheumatic fever.
His father was known to call him before every game.
He and fellow New Zealander Israel Dagg both played for the Crusaders in Super Rugby.
