Famous as the first Indian-born baseball player to be signed to a Major League Baseball team, this left-handed pitcher earned his spot with the Pittsburgh Pirates after competing in a reality television sports contest called Million Dollar Arm.
In his early years, he played cricket and medaled in India's Junior National Javelin Championship.
In the 2014 film Million Dollar Arm, he is portrayed by actor Suraj Sharma. The film's other stars include Jon Hamm and Bill Paxton.
He and his eight siblings grew up in a poor family in Bhadohi, India.
Sports agent J.B. Bernstein, the creator of Million Dollar Arm, discovered both Singh and fellow Indian pitcher Dinesh Patel.
