He turned down a baseball scholarship to study music at Texas A&M University. As a student, he played country music at clubs in the area.
He earned his first #1 country single with "Running Out of Reasons to Run" in 1996.
He has two children with his wife, Karla Trevino.
He performed with Kid Rock at the KZLA Country Bash 2003 in Los Angeles.
