Richard Yates
Novelist
An American writer of fiction, he is best known for his short story collection, Eleven Kinds of Loneliness, and for his novel, Revolutionary Road. The latter work was adapted for the screen by director Sam Mendes.
He worked as a journalist, freelance ghost writer, and publicity writer.
His novel, Revolutionary Road, was a finalist for the National Book Award.
He was born in Yonkers, New York, and he spent his childhood in many different states. He married Sheila Bryant in 1948.
His short story collection, Eleven Kinds of Loneliness, has been compared to James Joyce's their work, Dubliners.
