Remembered for his contributions to the field of epidemiology, this late 15th and early 16th-century English physician is perhaps most well known for penning an important medical work titled Short Discourse Concerning Pestilential Contagion, and the Method to Be Used to Prevent It.

Before Fame

After studying medicine in Utrecht and Leiden, Netherlands, and in Padua, Italy, he joined a London medical practice and published an early work of medical scholarship titled Mechanical Account of Poisons.

A high-ranking physician, he was present at the deathbed of England's Queen Anne.
