Irish inventor who predicted some of modern-day's machines and made a machine to measure the size of a plot of land. He was a founder-member of the Royal Irish Academy.
He studied at Trinity College, Dublin.
He came up with the idea of the caterpillar track, calling it 'a cart that carries its own road.'
His grandson Francis Ysidro Edgeworth continued the family tradition of expanding science.
Rowland Hill is another well known British inventor - he came up with the self-adhesive postage stamp.
