Remembered best for his posthumously-published work The Idea of History, this British historian and philosopher is also well known for his 1938 book The Principles of Art and for his 1916 publication Religion and Philosophy.

Before Fame

After graduating with honors from University College, Oxford, he taught for over a decade at Pembroke College, Oxford. He later accepted a metaphysical philosophy professorship at Magdalen College, Oxford.
