He studied at the Birmingham School of Arts and Crafts, the Royal College of Art, and Slade School of Art.
He was awarded the Order of the British Empire for services to sculpture and to Anglo-French relations.
His parents raised him in Birmingham, England.
He and Marion Foale both studied at the Royal College of Art.
