Rauff Hakeem
Politician
After becoming a member of the Sri Lankan Parliament, this Sri Lanka Muslim Congress party-turned United National Party politician held the posts of Minister of Justice; Minister of Posts and Telecommunication; and Minister of Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage.
Before beginning his political career, he earned LLB and LLM degrees from Royal College Colombo.
In the early 2000s, he led the Sri Lankan Muslim Congress in the wake of former leader M.H.M. Ashraff's death.
Born Abdul Rauff Hibathul Hakeem, he spent his youth in Nawalapitiya, Sri Lanka, and later settled in Colombo with his wife Shanaz Hakeem.
He and Namal Rajapaksa both served in the Sri Lankan Parliament.
