He was briefly employed at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center and at Adobe Systems during his time as a doctoral student.
He was a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University, and authored the book The Last Lecture.
He married Jai Glasgow. Together, they had three children: Chloe, Dylan and Logan.
He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon, where their director Albert Brooks once studied.
