Egyptian singer and guitarist who has become their for his politically-charged songs, including "Irhal," which was embraced by many as an anthem for the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. He made headlines during the revolution for his appearances in Tahrir Square in Cairo.
He studied Engineering school and began writing his own songs at age 17. He is a self-taught guitarist.
His song "Irhal" placed third on Time Out London's list of the 100 Songs That Changed History.
His older brother Shady became a parental figure following his father's death.
He vocally urged Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak to resign in 2011.
