Young adult fiction writer whose best-known novels include Gingerbread, published in 2002, and Beta, published in 2012. With her frequent literary collaborator, David Levithan, she also wrote the popular 2007 novel Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist.
She graduated from New York's Barnard College with a degree in political science and subsequently moved to San Francisco to pursue a career as a writer.
Her debut novel, Gingerbread, details the adventures of punk heroine Cyd Charisse.
She was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, and she later settled in New York City.
Michael Cera starred as Nick in the film adaptation of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.
