Her first taste of fashion designing came in middle school, when she started a line of t-shirts that said "You Can Sit With Us" in response to people wearing shirts that said "You Can't Sit With Us."
She started surfing competitively in sixth grade, a passion that has taken her as far as Indonesia.
She was born to Jennifer and Evan Slater. She has a younger sister named Zoe.
