He and his wife Susanne became parents to a son named Roscoe and daughters named Eleanor and Margot. His father, J. Joseph Ricketts, founded Ameritrade and owned the Chicago Cubs.
Early in his political career, Ricketts lost a Nebraska race for the United States Senate to Democratic Party politician Ben Nelson.
