She worked as a typist for over a decade. In 1979, she published her first novel, Duchess in Disguise.
She first began writing stories at the age of eight as amusement for herself and her younger siblings.
Her birth name was Penelope Jones. She was married to Steve Halsall, an accountant. The couple had many nieces and nephews, but no children.
