Former center half back who was a seven-time All-Australian team selection during his career with Fitzeroy and Sydney. In 2005, he became a member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
He was a top prospect at Donvale High School from 1975 to 1981 and was recruited to play for Fitzeroy's U19 team.
After retirement, he served as the coach of Sydney from 2002 to 2010 and became the coach of Melbourne in 2014.
He had two sons, Dylan and Tyler, with his wife Tami Hardy, whom he married in 1992.
He became Jack Trengove's coach on Melbourne in 2014.
