Paul Engle
Poet
Poet, author, editor, and teacher who helped to establish the superb reputation of the Iowa Writers' Workshop. His best-known poetic works include Break the Heart's Anger, Corn, and The Word of Love.
He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and received a Rhodes Scholarship to attend Oxford University. Worn Earth, his debut poetry collection, won the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition.
He founded the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.
He grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as the son of Evelyn Reinheiner and Thomas Allen Engle.
He taught Philip Levine at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
