Bengali Indian music director who was considered a pioneer during the invention of playback singing. He was best known for his participation in "Yatrik" and other films.
His first song, "Nemecche Aaj Prothom Badal," was recorded in 1926 when he was just 18.
He was given the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest civilian award given by the Indian government, for his lifetime achievement in Indian cinema in 1972.
He was influenced by his father, who was heavily interested in Bengali music.
He contributed music to the films of renowned Indian directors such as Geeta Dutt.
