He was self-taught and founded his first band, The Misfitz, in 1966. He worked as a studio musician for Capricorn Records in 1969.
He played with John Mayer on Born & Raised, Mayer's 2011 album.
He married Rose Lane White in 1973.
He collaborated with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Gov't Mule, and many other their artists and bands.
