Post-bop and hard-bop jazz artist who became one of the most prominent professionals to use the Hammond B3 organ.
He was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music when he was 21.
He joined Milt Jackson's Quartet in 1988 and performed with them for 11 years, during which time he was promoted to musical director.
He was born into a musical family with a father who was a jazz guitarist and took him on gigs when he was 10. His parents both managed a music store.
He was called one of the most promising and talented pianists of his era by Oscar Peterson.
