Best known for Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Cuddle Up A Little Closer, Lovey Mine, and Indian Love Call. He wrote 50 musical comedies.
He was a newspaper reporter, copywriter, and was employed by an insurance firm.
He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
His parents, Adolph Christiansen and Sena Olsen, were Danish immigrants. Their last name Hauerbach came from the name of the farm they worked on.
He mentored Oscar Hammerstein II.
