He became a member of the Soviet National team in 1954.
He has a doctorate in psychology, which comes in handy in his chess play, and assisted Spassky against Bobby Fischer at Reykjavík 1972.
He was born and raised in Soviet Russia.
He is their for coaching Boris Spassky.
