He is best known for his novel, Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family, which became the hit movie, Goodfellas. He wrote the script for the classic gangster film based off his novel with director Martin Scorsese.
He got his start as a journalist, profiling and writing about the Mafia.
In 2012, he wrote the pilot for the CBS program, Vegas.
He was married to wife, Nora Ephron, until her death.
He won the Best Adapted Screenplay for Goodfellas, which starred Ray Liotta.
