Her debut single, "I Miss You (Come Back Home)," rose to number sixteen on the U.S. R&B chart.
She was featured on the TV One reality show R&B Divas: Atlanta.
Born Monifa Carter, she grew up in New York City's East Harlem neighborhood. Two decades after giving birth to a daughter named Akemi, she married a woman named Terez.
She is well known for her work with the Jamaican-born rapper Heavy D.
